Press Release Summary: Paris October 8th 2007, A Medicine Buddha Mandala annually constructed in Paris France, will for the first time ever be built simultaneously in Second Life, in solidarity with the monks, nuns and peoples of Burma.
Press Release Body: The Mandala, a complex representation of the residence of the Medicine Buddha, and at the same time a map of consciousness, will be constructed over four days by Tibetan monks from coloured sand. This traditional Tibetan offering to encourage peace and healing comes at a particularly poignant time says Ven, Geshe Thupten Khedroup, Meditation Director of MindScience Institute. "The Monks and Nuns of Burma have shown great compassion and courage in demonstrating for freedom and democracy. It is the duty of all of us who believe in human rights and human dignity to show our solidarity with the Burmese people. This Mandala is dedicated to the peace and happiness of all beings, and especially to those who are suffering in Burma at this time."
Executives from Unfrozenmind, a Strategic Innovation thinktank based in London and Community Chest SARL collaborated with the MindScience Institute to simulcast this event in Second Life as a way of enabling this message of peace and solidarity to be shared in an interactive way across the globe. "Through technologies such as Facebook andSecond Life, this local event can become a profound symbol of peace whereever you are in the world, for individuals express their solidarity with the peoples of Burma" said Alexei Levene, Marketing Director of Unfrozenmind. "This is about technology with a moral compass, about ancient traditions harmonising with modern tools and, fundamentally, about the promotion of universal human values."
Both the actual and virtual Mandalas are free events open to all peoples says Ven Geshe Thupten Khedroup "It is important for people to spend time reflecting on those who are suffering and also the suffering that we experience. We are very happy if people can take some time out of their busy schedules to visit and share in this Mandala as well as expressing their solidarity in a peaceful environment.
